The fly agaric (Amanita muscaria var muscaria) is a poisonous mushroom of the genus Amanita (Amanita), which also includes the particularly toxic green amanita (Amanita phalloides). The fly agaric is less toxic, but not harmless.
The red toadstool occurs in Central Europe from June until winter, with a major publication from July to October. There are several recognized varieties of it (variants). The fly agaric in the true sense is the variety Amanita muscaria var muscaria.
Amanita muscaria var aureola is often without flakes with membranous sheath. Amanita muscaria var formosa, has a yellow-orange hat and very few yellow-colored flakes. Both variations cause the same symptoms of poisoning such as the fly agaric.
The king brown mushroom (Amanita muscaria var regalis) will no longer operate as a separate species, but also more recently as a variety, it is very similar to Pantherpilz. 1
